Probably my favourite song title! Grandson James is now five, but at the time this was written he was just a few months old and used to get wheeled around by his Papa. Anyone with children or grandchildren will probably recognise the scenario. Here, it also helps if you have some acquaintance with Edinburgh. Leith Water and Calton Hill are well-known features of the city, and the "Colonies" is a reference to Stockbridge. Verse three is set in the Botanical Gardens, although "The Garden" could be an aside to Genesis (the Book, not the Band!)

Fittingly, the very first person to whom I sang this was James himself. He fell asleep half way through....
