Notes

“Albert and the ‘Eadsman” is one of the original batch of monologues that Stanley Holloway performed, and one of my own favourites. This pays tribute to that particular piece, being in effect a sequel. There’s a personal slant too, as the Natural History Museum was a frequent haunt during my early childhood in London; and my subsequent time as a Biology teacher led directly to the references to evolution and Charles Darwin. Ma, Pa and Albert are up to their usual tricks, of course, although as it turned out, a subsequent composition gave the lie to the last line.
