This is, so far, the only composition of mine without words. I wanted to write something for my friend, but I knew that she never listened to lyrics! But she was, and is, a very accomplished fiddler, and so this seemed appropriate. She liked it, and so did others.
I had made a small start at learning how to write down tunes, and have reached the point at which if someone plays what I have written, it does sound more or less right. But it’s still very amateurish, and I’m going to need some help with this if, as I intend, I want to produce a complete set of melodies for my songs.
In this instance, I am indebted to Peter Davie, of the Stirling Riverside Music Project (and associated ceilidh band) for his transcription. |
