Notes

It is no secret that my younger son Peter has autism. It was some years before this was diagnosed, and one of the major indicators that all was not as it might be was that he did not speak at all until the age of five. I wrote this song at a time when we all wondered if in fact he would ever speak at all. But it is basically positive in outlook; we don’t always need words, and I wanted to celebrate that fact.

Peter is now in his twenties, and while he will always need help and care, this has, thankfully, been available, and he is able to lead a comfortable and meaningful life. Autism is a condition that is still poorly understood, but the fact that it is now recognised, and that people affected by it are increasingly accepted and included in society, gives hope for the future.
